When the New Orleans Saints hit the field for the Super Bowl in Miami, FL on February 7 against the Indianapolis Colts you can expect to see more dirt in the air then the Preakness Betting Race.
With the Super Bowl spread putting the Colts as a 5.5 favourite, it is a good line for the over. While this game will be hotly contested, it is hard to see the teams kicking field goals with the knowledge of how good the opposing offence is.There will be risks taken to extend drives and get the extra four points on drives.
The big difference maker in this game will be the Saints pass-rush and defensive-backs. Against the Minnesota Vikings they were very good but gave up some big plays. Brett Favre was hit early and often and threw two interceptions after having thrown only seven over the regular season. The one downside was with all their aggressiveness, the Saints gave up seven plays of over 20 yards, something they cannot do against the Colts.
The Saints do not have a shut down corner in the mould of New York Jets Derrelle Revis, so All-Pro wide-receiver Reggie Wayne should make up for last week with a monster day for the Colts.
One of the better betting tips would be to notice that Manning put up his great numbers last game while only targeting Wayne and tight-end Dallas Clarke with seven passes for 90 yards.
Drew Brees and Peyton Manning are the best two quarterbacks in the league right now and proved it against two great defences last Sunday. In their respective conference championship games the two teams combined for 574 yards and 6 touchdowns trough the air en route to 61 total points. This against the number one and fifth ranked defences in the league.
When the Colts and Saints meet at Dolphin Stadium, they will bring the 18th and 25th ranked defences, respectively, and this means one thing; bet on the over/under of 56 being broken. It is quite possible that the record 75 points, set by San Francisco and San Diego in 1995, for highest scoring Super Bowl could also be in jeopardy.
