Super Bowl History

NFL betting enthusiasts have enjoyed much success betting on the Super Bowl since the first ever championship game was played in January of 1967. This was capped off by the NFL team Green Bay Packers winning both of the first two championships in the 1966 to 67 and 1967 to 68 seasons respectively. Going into the 1968 to 69 season, there was a fear amongst many that the NFL was the more dominant league. Before merging in 1970, the NFL competed in a Super Bowl championship game against rival football company the AFL. In the first two Super Bowl games as previously mentioned, won by the Packers, the Packers led by hall of famer Budd Starr absolutely decimated the two squads representing the AFL, the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders.

However, by the 1968 to 1969 season, the AFL turned the tables and cruised to two straight Super Bowl titles, providing bettors with ample reasoning to take the AFL seriously as a rival to the NFL. Nevertheless, the two leagues merged in 1970, and from 1968 to 1980, the AFC which was made up of the former AFL teams, dominated the Super Bowl. In the 1970s alone, the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl six were the only NFC team to win a title.

Also in the 1970s, NFL fans witnessed history as similar to the Oilers and Islanders dynasty's of the NHL in the 1980s, the AFC Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers ran rampant on the NFL. The Dolphins team which won Super Bowl VII is the only team in league history to win a title with a perfect record of 17 wins and zero losses. Conversely, the Steelers led by hall of famer's Terry Bradshaw and Lynn Swann were able to win four titles in six years from 1974 to 1980.
