AFC is No.1
New England (+370), San Diego (+500) and Pittsburgh (+500) are the front-runners, but all three had a tough time pulling out wins in Week 1. The Patriots need some Tom Brady magic (and a lot of Buffalo stupidity) to beat the Bills, the Chargers had a tough time in Oakland, while the Steelers needed overtime to beat Tennessee at home. Indianapolis (+1100) didn’t drop a whole lot, considering Anthony Gonzalez will miss 2-8 weeks because of a knee injury.
NFC Falls
Philadelphia (+1000) and Minnesota (+1100) dropped a bit despite convincing wins, as the Eagles romped over Carolina and the Vikings handled Tampa Bay easily. However, Philly’s drop may have come due to the rib problems of Donovan McNabb. They have Michael Vick eligible for next week’s game, and he may be a better option than Kevin Kolb. The Eagles also picked up Jeff Garcia for backup, and we’re wondering why he’s not playing this week. As for the Vikings, three of their next four at home. Chicago (+2500) may have the biggest drop, as Jay Cutler was terrible with four picks against Green Bay, and Brian Urlacher is gone for the year with a broken wrist.
Longshots who are worth a risk?
Try Tennessee (+2000), even though they lost to Pittsburgh. They took the Steelers to overtime and shut down Pittsburgh’s ground game, which is even more impressive when you consider that they let All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth go to Washington. The defense has a point to prove this year, and as long as Kerry Collins (or Vince Young) doesn’t hurt the team, they’ll be a decent online betting choice this year.
