Super Bowl XLIV Odds – Defenses could be in trouble on Sunday

Super Bowl XLIV odds depend a lot on the offenses this weekend, and they both have powerful units spearheaded by great quarterbacks with a lot of talent at their disposal.

Peyton Manning leads the Colts’ offense, which just seems to keep it moving. They tried to integrate Anthony Gonzalez into the team after the exit of Marvin Harrison, and then Gonzalez got hurt. Two weeks ago against the Jets, New York took Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark out of the game, and Manning found Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie all day long. Finally, the reason that Manning won his fourth MVP? He had one of the best seasons of his career with a non-existent running game.

The Saints are powered by Drew Brees, who has receivers like Marques Colston, Devery Henderson and Lance Moore to stretch the defense, but the most important may be Jeremy Shockey, who can catch over the middle. The Saints would also like to have Reggie Bush back to his form of three weeks ago, when he was a one-man wrecking crew against Arizona. If Bush can get out in the open field, he’s almost unstoppable unless you have a defense that is fast enough to swarm to the ball. Pierre Thomas is the main man in the ground game, and this is probably the place where New Orleans has the biggest advantage. If they play their cards right, they could just grind out the clock and keep Manning off the field. Of course, Miami tried that in Week 2, when Manning was on the field for just under 15 minutes….and the Colts won 27-23.
